An Op Art vase, model Spike 501, made by Scherzer in Germany between the late 1960s and early 1970s. The matte, unglazed bisque porcelain gives it a soft, velvety surface that puts the focus entirely on form.

Sharp pyramidal spikes cover the body in an even three-dimensional relief, throwing crisp light and shadow, a hallmark of Optical Art influenced German Mid-Century design.
